Questions hikers ask

Where does the forecast data come from?

From the MeteoSwiss ICON-CH1 model: for Swiss locations via the official MeteoSwiss sources, for border areas via Open-Meteo running the same model. It's the highest-resolution forecast available for the Alps.

What exactly is a "weather window"?

The mountaineering term for the stretch of hours good enough to be out on the mountain. You tell Traversee your hours (say 07–16); it finds the valleys where those hours are sunny, dry and storm-free.

Why valley gateways and not summits?

Each of the 168 locations is the village where a hiking valley starts, the place where you park. Forecasts are most reliable there, and every trailhead above it shares that valley's weather character.

Is my drive time really calculated from my home?

Yes. Set your home base once (or use geolocation) and every ranking is sorted with real driving estimates from your door. That's the point: the best weather you can actually reach.

Do I need an account?

No. The free ranking works without any sign-up. An optional account later unlocks Pro features like saved bases and alerts.

MeteoSwiss and SRF Meteo are free. Why pay?

The scanner stays free, and those apps stay great at telling you what the weather will be where you already are. Traversee answers a different question: where it will be best. Pro adds the tools built on top of that answer: the route planner, the 14-day window finder and the best-weekend statistics.

Does it cover where I hike?

168 valley gateways across Switzerland, Liechtenstein and the border Alps of Austria, Germany, Italy and France. Open the map view and every gateway is a pin. If your valley is missing, one mail and it goes on the list.

Is the CHF 24 founding price real?

Yes. CHF 24 per year is the founding price for everyone on the launch list, and it stays at that level for as long as your subscription runs. Today and tomorrow stay free for everyone, always.

Who is behind this

Traversee is built in Kaisten (Aargau) by Paweł Krawczyk, a scientist and engineer, a hiker and a lover of the mountains. It comes out of a physicist's habit of reading a forecast as a model with error bars rather than a promise, and out of too many days spent driving two hours into cloud while the next valley stood in full sun. One person, real product, your feedback lands directly with the builder.
